President Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. He served from March 4, 1861 until he was assassinated on April 15, 1865 by John Wilkes Booth.
Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809, in a one-room log cabin in Hardin County, Kentucky. Born to a poor family, Lincoln had to work hard to survive. Although he was mainly self-educated he later became a "Prairie Lawyer". Lincoln had many failures in his life but never stopped trying.
Lincoln opposed slavery and on January 1, 1863, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation. His most famous speech was the Gettysburg Address.
